Ranking the 2010 Indy 500 Drivers # 1 - 37

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway opens this Saturday for the first scheduled practice of the 94th running of the Indy 500. 37 Drivers have been confirmed for this years race, with the possibility of 1-2 be added any day. IndyCar Garage ranks the drivers 1 through 37. Tyler Carmichael of IndyCar Garage Weekly talked about this topic last night on the show and offered his perspective. Driver, Ranking, and Note

1. Helio Castroneves - 3 time winner at Indy, hard to ignore his success at Indy

2.. Scott Dixon - Vegas has Dixon as the 3-1 favorite

3. Dario Franchitti - 2007 winner, driving for one of the superpowers

4. Ryan Briscoe - On a great team, needs to prove his worth at Indy

5. Will Power - Would be lower if not in the Penske stable

6. Danica Patrick - 4th in 2005, 3rd in 2009, ….. 1st in _ _ _ _

7. Paul Tracy - He claims he won in 2002, this year he lost 30lbs

8. Marco Andretti - 2nd in 2006, 3rd in 2008, 1st turn wall in 2009

9. Tony Kannan - Would be a feel good story if he won

10. Ryan Hunter-Reay - He almost has to win to keep his season going

11. Dan Wheldon - 2005 winner finished runner up in 2009

12. Tomas Scheckter - Given a good car, he could win, or crash on lap 2

13. John Andretti - Savy Veteran who should be around at the end

14. Vitor Meira - Runner up in 2008, can Foyt win again at Indy?

15. Ed Carpenter - Couple top 10’s to his credit, this is panther’s 2nd car

16. Alex Tagliani - Rookie of the Year in 2009

17. Justin Wilson - Still trying to figure out ovals

18. Graham Rahal - Hasn’t completed a full 500 miles yet

19. Davey Hamilton - Another Veteran who should be around at the end

20. Hideki Mutoh - Only entry right now for Newman/Haas

21. Mario Maroes - He took out Marco last year on the first lap

22. Raphael Matos - He will benefit from his teammate Davy Hamilton

23. Townsend Bell - Finished 4th in 2009, driving for Sam Schmidt this year

24. Takuma Sato - Former F1 driver, this is his first Indy 500

25. Mike Conway - He needs to finish a full 500 miles

26. E.J. Viso - Another KV car, just needs to finish

27. Bruno Junquerria - Sat on pole in 2001, funding might be an issue this year

28. Sarah Fisher - The original female of IndyCar, Sarah's best is 19th

29. A.J. Foyt IV - Driving for Grandpa, he did marry Casey Irasy

30. Alex Lloyd - Driving for Dale Coyne, its been a rough 2010

31. Jay Howard - His wreck at Kansas didn’t help going into May

32. Simona De Silverstro - Another female that is very Savy, a sleeper ROY

33. Milka Duno - Milka is looking for her 4th Indy 500 start, it will be tough

34. Ana Beatriz - Lights Driver the past two years, looking for her first start

35. Bertrand Baquette - Conquest driver who little experience on ovals

36. Mario Romancini - Lights graduate and won a few ovals in Lights

37. Sebasitian Saavedra - First Indy 500 and with no backup car.. och
